Where did that lamppost come from?

When I took this photo looking up river from the Queen's bridge to the Auld Brig, I didn't notice the lamp post in the way. It's funny what the brain ignores isn't it?
The spire belongs to St.Matthew's church. The building was completed in 1871, and is now a category B listed building. The bridges cross the River Tay, which is the longest river in Scotland and the seventh-longest in Great Britain, and which eventually reaches the sea in Dundee.

This is a photo of the Church of St John the Baptist in Ruyton XI Towns, and it dates in part to the 12th century with the tower being dated from the 14th century. The structure in the left foreground is the remains of the site of a medieval castle. The bench is surrounded by dog daisies, Leucanthemum vulgare, which have spread throughout the churchyard and look stunning at the moment. The church clock hasn't worked for about 9 months. It needs a new battery operated winder to lift the small weights. The battery operated mechanism replaced the old hand wound system in 2008. We used to wind the huge weights up, and it was a very good workout. When we temporarily left the village in 2007 to live in Norway, no-one wanted the job, so a battery operated system was installed.

HFF everyone.
St.Martin's Church.
The medieval church dates from 13th Century and has been enlarged and restored over the centuries, most notably by Sir Robert Walpole, who rebuilt the tower as a memorial to his grandfather Sir Jeffery Burwell in about 1730.
The interior is very plain.
What's afoot? A legend of course. ;-)

Above the main entrance to St Michaeliis, Satan writhes at the feet of the Archangel Michael who is shown defeating the Devil with a cross-shaped lance. This photo is taken from a window inside the church.

The church balconies are curved and seem to give a sense of movement to the inside of St Michaelis.

King's Lynn Minster

King's Lynn Minster (St Margaret's) is a Grade I listed parish church of the Church of England in King's Lynn. The church was established by Herbert de Losinga, Bishop of Norwich in 1095 to serve a Benedictine Priory and dedicated to St Margaret of Antioch.
Architecturally, the slender 12th-century south-west tower in the Early English Gothic style predates the larger north-west tower in the Perpendicular style of the 15th century. The central lantern and south-west spire collapsed in 1741, which destroyed much of the nave. This was reconstructed in a programme of rebuilding between 1745-46 by the architect Matthew Brettingham. The oldest bell is a Sanctus bell dating from 1657 by Thomas Norris. The main ring of 10 bells is in the key of C with a tenor weighing just over 28 cwt.

The kirk at A'Chlèit was completed in 1790 and is the parish kirk of Killean. Built 1787-91 by local builder Thomas Cairns.
Many folks drive past this turn-off and miss this little church right on the shoreline.

Ruin of St Michael's Church on Glastonbury tor

St Michael's Church survived until the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1539 when, except for the tower, it was demolished.
It remains a place of pilgrimage for some. Near the base of the tor when we had walked back down, there were lots of tourists walking up , including 2 women who had taken off their shoes in order to walk on the hallowed ground!
