Coltsfoot. Tussilago farfara

20 Mar 2021 32 21 363
Today's Sunday Challenge is: Yellow The common name comes from the leaf's supposed resemblance to a colt's foot. The leaves of coltsfoot appear after the flowers have set seed. The long stems bear scale-leaves that can be seen more clearly in the PiP. Coltsfoot has been used in herbal medicine and the leaves have been used in traditional Austrian medicine internally (as tea or syrup) or externally (directly applied) for treatment of disorders of the respiratory tract, skin, locomotor system, viral infections, flu, colds, fever, rheumatism and gout. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tussilago

Today's Sunday Challenge: How Are You Coping With The Lock Down/Stay At Home Order. We live in a village, and every day since the lockdown we have managed to go out for walks in the countryside. The beauty of nature has, as always, been my salvation, and I have made a collection of photos under the album title 'Walking with nature'. I have also kept sane doing gardening and reading. The garden was supposed to open under the National garden Scheme, but that won't happen this year now. WALKING WITH NATURE

Kissing is still in fashion. Ulex europaeus, gorse

24 Jan 2021 17 8 294
Gorse, furze or whin is a genus of flowering plants in the family Fabaceae, the pea family. There are several different species. Common gorse flowers a little in late autumn and through the winter, coming into flower most strongly in spring. Western gorse and dwarf furze flower in late summer (August–September in Ireland and Great Britain). Between the different species, some gorse is almost always in flower, hence the old country phrase: "When gorse is out of blossom, kissing's out of fashion".

Wishing you all a much better 2021.

Kissing is out of season when gorse is out of bloom. A relatively mild winter's day here in 2018, and I even saw a hover fly inspecting these gorse flowers. BUT NO HUGGING OR KISSING YET in 2020 or 2021.

If dandelions were much rarer, we wouldn't class them as weeds. They really brighten up a dull day.
