O belo Hotel De Alvito está situado no interior do Castelo de Conto de Fadas de Alvito, no meio das deslumbrantes e vastas planícies alentejanas. É considerado um dos melhores exemplos da arquitectura portuguesa, combinando o estilo islâmico, gótico, manuelino e histórico português, que oferece um verdadeiro sentido de história e carácter.

A pousada encontra-se instalada nas dependências do castelo da vila, cuja atual conformação remonta ao final do século XV, construído durante os reinados de D. João II e D. Manuel I.

Com influência mudéjar observável nomeadamente nos elementos decorativos e em algumas janelas maineladas encimadas por arcos em ferradura construídos em tijolo e argamassa.

Apesar das ameias nas muralhas, as numerosas janelas dão-lhe uma feição solarenga certamente determinada também pelo facto de que, apesar de a família que o construiu -ostentando o título de barão de Alvito - ter uma grande influência regional, não tinha o poder, nomeadamente militar, das grandes famílias do reino.

A torre de menagem mantém ainda características góticas na cobertura das suas divisões.

O castelo encontra-se classificado como Monumento Nacional desde 1910 (DG 136 de 23 de Junho de 1910).

Em 1993 foi aprovado e executado um projecto de enquadramento paisagístico do parque pelo arquitecto Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles, sendo em Setembro do mesmo ano inaugurada a Pousada construída segundo um projecto aprovado dois anos antes.

A Pousada
Mantendo a integridade das linhas originais do monumento, em estilo mudéjar, gótico e manuelino, oferece ao público dezenove quartos e uma suite, restaurante, piscina, bar e esplanada.

O jardim, com rega à nora, foi projectado de acordo com o que eram os espaços agrícolas e de fruição dos antigos castelos medievais.

The beautiful Hotel De Alvito is set within the fairytale Castle of Alvito amid the stunning, vast Alentejan plains. It is considered one of the best examples of Portuguese architecture, combining Islamic, Gothic, Manueline and historical Portuguese style which offer a real sense of history and character.

The Pousada is housed in the town's castle, which dates back to the late 15th century and was built during the reigns of D. João II and D. Manuel I.

The Mudéjar influence can be seen in the decorative elements and in some of the main windows topped by horseshoe arches made of brick and mortar.

Despite the battlements on the walls, the numerous windows give it a sunny appearance, certainly also determined by the fact that, although the family that built it - bearing the title of Baron of Alvito - had great regional influence, they did not have the power, particularly military, of the great families of the kingdom.

The keep still retains Gothic features in the roof of its rooms.

The castle has been classified as a National Monument since 1910 (DG 136 of 23 June 1910).

In 1993 a project for the landscaping of the park was approved and executed by the architect Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles. In September of the same year the Pousada, built according to a project approved two years before, was inaugurated.

The Pousada
Maintaining the integrity of the original lines of the monument, in Mudejar, Gothic and Manueline styles, the Pousada offers the public nineteen rooms and one suite, a restaurant, swimming pool, bar and terrace.

The garden, with its irrigation system, was designed in accordance with the agricultural and leisure areas of the old medieval castles.
