Abbaye de Boscodon

Founded in 1142, the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Boscodon was built by cenobite monks of the Monastic Order of Chalais2 thanks to the donations of the local lord, Guillaume de Montmirail. These monks succeeded hermits gathered around a certain William of Lyonne. The initial donation, dated 1132, took place in the presence of Guillaume de Bénévent, future Archbishop of Embrun3. In 1303, when Chalais became dependent on the Charterhouse4, Boscodon became chief of the order; then, at the beginning of the 15th century, Benedictine.

The monks live from the exploitation of the forest and the estate, and from the breeding of sheep.

The abbey of Boscodon also had, in Les Mées, the priory of Paillerols since the 13th century.

In the 18th century, at the time of the Commission des Réguliers, the abbey was attached to the Archdiocese of Embrun, and part of its buildings were destroyed.

During the French Revolution, the abbey and its estates became national property. Joseph Berthe acquires the buildings. A hamlet was built around the abbey church which became a stable, stable and housing.

In the 20th century, the inhabitants gradually left the hamlet.

Les moines vivent de l'exploitation de la forêt et du domaine, et de l'élevage de moutons.

L’abbaye de Boscodon possédait par ailleurs, aux Mées, le prieuré de Paillerols à partir du xiie siècle.

Au xviiie siècle, au moment de la Commission des Réguliers, l'abbaye est rattachée à l'archevêché d'Embrun, et une partie de ses bâtiments est détruite.

Pendant la Révolution française, l'abbaye et ses domaines deviennent propriété nationale. Joseph Berthe acquiert les bâtiments. Un hameau se construit autour de l'abbatiale qui devient écurie, étable, logement.

Au xxe siècle, les habitants quittent progressivement le hameau.
