Phongsali and a bad Chinese influence

When you enter Phongsali you feel at the end of Laos but connected to the Chinese. I wonder why the Chinese in that town show such a extremely chauvinism although they aren't in their own country. As we liked to move in the well known Phou Fa Hotel up on a hill, the receptionist told that the Chinese booked the full hotel and don't like other guests like us or from other countries than China.
Please get in mind that we weren't in China, were in Laos!
