Kathmandu skyline with Bhimsen tower

Bhimsen Tower, also known as Dharahara-Tower, was a nine storey (50.2m) tall tower at the center of Kathmandu. It was built in 1832 AD by the then Prime Minister Bhimsen Thapa of Nepal under the orders of Queen Lalit Tripura Sundari.
The tower had a spiral staircase inside containing 113 steps. The 8th floor was holding a circular balcony for observers that provides a panoramic view of the whole Kathmandu valley.
Most of the tower collapsed in the 25 April 2015 Nepal earthquake, but the base remains. Sixty bodies were found in the rubble. Reconstruction of the tower is to commence in November 2017.
