Workers in the Angkor Archaeological Park

Stretching over some 400 square kilometers, including forested area, Angkor Archaeological Park contains the magnificent remains of several capitals of the Khmer Empire of the 9th to the 15th centuries, including the largest pre-industrial city in the world.
More than two thousand people are working in the park to keep clean all the temples and historic buildings, to sell souvenirs to the visitors. Some work in a restaurant and others are watch men and caretaker of the park.
On the way we passed some villages where residents live in simple houses, but there aren't guesthouses for visitors. All visitors have to leave the park for overnight outside the park.
