Deer Lodge, at Silver Heights, Winnipeg.
MacFarlane card HA.110. The stamp has been removed but there is enough of the cancellation to show that it was sent or received in December 1906. The message on the front is presumably in Flemish. The sender is J. B. Vigneron of St. Boniface and the recipient appears to be a Mr. St. Elfons Van de Broeck (?), "school master"), Lovenjoul by Leuven, Belgium. The handwriting is difficult to read.
The card is quite intricately coloured, making for a convincing overall effect.
Same image on www.ipernity.com/doc/wintorbos/44381896 (possibly the work of Barrowclough).

Ice Breaker, Osborne Bridge
This is what is known as Armstrongs Point, south west of the City. This is all frozen over now. Thermometer Reg[isters] 27 deg. of frost tonight. The Ice is about 18" thick; it will average 4 + 5 ft. You see the Cross on the picture. This is Miss Spence's house made fully modern this spring. We have done the painting. The picture shows the River fully 15 ft. above the ordinary level."
This message is across the entire back so there is no indicate of sender's or recipient's names. On the front is noted, "These Photos were printed in England".
No indication of the publisher. It is an undivided back card.

Residential Crescentwood, Winnipeg, Man., Canada.
Valentine & Sons no. 109,515: "My Dearest Little Sister, What do you think of this for a fine district. Isn't it a dandy [triple underlined] spot. This City is certainly a dandy [triple underlined] place, especially during the summer from April to Nov 1st. Your Little Boy, Sidney xxxxxxxxxx"
Same Sidney, with very dramatic (and hard to read) handwriting, that wrote the "Main Street Subway" message.
