In the winters my grandfather used to tell me to watch out for the currents under the ice, which were especially strong around the outermost points of the headland. These weaker spots in the ice are called 'uhku' in Finnish. They also form in spots where there's water sitting on ice, and around large underwater rocks.
When my grandfather got dementia one thing I heard him mention, when he realised it's winter, was for my parents to tell me to watch out for the currents and not walk on the ice near those places, the way he reminded me when I was six years old.
