Thanks Hilke! I don't generally like staged pictures for some reason, and I used to see this type of stuff so much on Etsy that I guess I just eventually began to dislike it all, heh. Often it's the really nice book + a really ugly cheapo pen combination that I find off-putting in these photos, but on the other hand the pictures with unused quills and such also feel a bit pretentious to me.. I do agree that it's a really good reference, as it adds some dimension in the picture. It's also a good idea to use the right kind of pens for certain types of paper, as you said.
