Lastours: The Castles 'Tour Regine' and 'Cabaret'

Since the 11. Century the castles belonged to the Lords of Cabaret. Their wealth came mainly from the exploitation of iron and copper mines. Furthermore they controlled the principal access routes into the Cabardes and the 'Montagne Noirs' region. The castles were built on top of a crest in a North-South axis. Interesting is that they were mostly built of quarry stones; only for the edges carved stones were used.
