Canberra: Australia's National Capital

Canberra is the actual federal capital of Australia...yes...not Sydney!...where Parliament sits and "rules". It is a purpose built city, planned, designed and built by Walter Burley Griffin through the 20s and onwards. It is small (500,000 inhabitants), nestles in natural vegetation around a purpose built lake, and houses the National Gallery, the National Museum, War Museum,National Library and Archives among other things. Also the Government and its bureacracy. It is a charming, slow-paced place, yet cosmopolitan. It lies in a cold area close to the Snowy Mountains, away from the coast. It is a city I have grown to love, as one of my sons lives and works here and I visit quite often.
