HFF from Shekhawati

Nawalgarh, in India, with its crumbling historic painted havelis, the former homes of extremely wealthy merchants. I was walking, taking photos, when I felt a thump in the middle of my back. It was this giant bull, a creature of privilege, walking the streets of its territory and bumping people out of the way.
I moved, quickly!

The picture with the haveli reminds me of the places Alsisar and Mandawa in the Shekhawati region.
There were also plenty of cows on the roads, but I didn't have such an adventurous encounter.

I've always wondered why, if these creatures are supposed to be sacred, they don't look after them properly? All the photo's of them I've seen show them as underfed and looking as if they're on their last legs.

The suffering of these animals, which often feed on garbage and ingest plastic in the process, is indeed immeasurable. Fortunately, there are aid organizations that take care of them and, i.a., try to sustainably improve their living conditions through education.

True. They do. And most states have cow shelters in their bigger towns for this purpose. They do wander widely and unpredictably, though. The bulls are a nuisance.
