Silo and Watertank Art
Silo Art in Tungamah
Over recent years in Australia, there has been a blooming of large scale artworks on grain silos and watertanks. This has not only made these structures more interesting, but has led to a growth in tourist visits to many places that otherwise wuld remain unvisited. This adds interest to country trips and also helps businesses in small towns such as Tungamah.
This artwork was the first in north-eastern Victoria and was painted by artist Sobrane Simcock in 2018. It shows dancing Brolgas (at right), a Kookaburra (centre) and a Galah at left.
Sophia mural
This mural is in the little Uniting Church (see PiP) in the village of Goorambat, which has become known for its artworks. it was done by Adnate in 2017. Sophia apparently has some religious significance , essentially "Divine Wisdom". Best viewed on black. I should have used flash, the church's yellow tinted windows don't help photography!
Wishing everyone a very Happy Bench Monday and a safe and enjoyable week.
Silo art - Goorambat #1
With my previous image of Sophia, I mentioned that Goorambat is known for its artwork. The silos there were painted by renowned artist Jimmy D'Vate. This painting of the Clydesdale cart horses Clem, Sam and Banjo is one of my favourites. I really suggest viewing large to get the best feeling of this.
There is more art on the other side of the silos, in the (clickable) PiP.
Silo art - Goorambat #2
These artworks are on the reverse side of the silo featuring the cart horses. The owl on the silo to the right is an endangered Barking Owl, with few left in the wild. This artwork also was done by Jimmy D'Vate.
4CV Muster and silos
One of the trips as part of the Renault 4CV Register's Muster gathering, was to the painted silos at Colbinabbin. If I can organise myself adequately, I'll have more images of the silos tomorrow. In the foreground is a Renault Florids, with another behind to the left, while at right is a row of Renault 4CVs.
Of course, we mustn't forget the bench, so as I head for my bed late on a Sunday evening, I'll wish everyone a Happy Bench Monday and a good week to follow.
The Colbinabbin silos
These impressive painted silos are in the little village of Colbinabbin. The backlighting was not helpful, but I'd suggest viewing large on black. Images of each individual silo are in the PiPs. Painted by Tim Bowtell, they took over 8 weeks to complete and depict scenes relevant to local history. To give some impression of scale, this was taken with the lens at widest setting and still required a stitch of two images.
Rochester silos
These painted silos are in the township of Rochester in Victoria. They were painted by Jimmy Dvate, who prefers to paint endangered wildlife. In this case, on the left is a Squirrel Glider, a possum species, on the right an Azure Kingfisher. Another image from a slightly different angle in the PiP.
Water tower artwork
This painted water tower is in Cunnamulla, in western Queensland. It was painted by Guido van Helten and illustrates annual childrens' football games (rugby league) between two adjacent (200 km) towns, Cunnamulla and Charleville. See also PiPs.
