Buildings
Other than "old country buildings" (I already have an album for those).
National Portrait Gallery
The National Portrait Gallery in Canberra, Australia's national Capital, opened in 2008 and won an architectural award in 2009. I gather it attracts about half a million visitors yearly.
Explored.
The High Court
Australia's High Court building, another example of the "Concrete Brutalism" architectural fashion. I'd have to say it does look as if the concrete could stand cleaning. :-) Best viewed large.
Explored.
The winery
I don't have many buildings in my image stream. Luckily, South Australia has a heritage of great old stone buildings, like this one at Sevenhill Cellars. HFF and have a great weekend, everyone.

Old and new
The restored buildings of the Huguang Guild Hall, in the city of Chongqing, date back several hundred years. Originally a community centre for immigrants to the area, the buildings now house a museum. Behind, a very large and modern suspension bridge across the Yangtze River. Best viewed large.
Christchurch cathedral
Through a viewing hole in the surrounding safety fence. Sadly, it seems likely the earthquake damage may be beyond reasonable repair. I have added the location details, it is interesting to view this area from the 'satellite' view.
Braidwood Hotel
We're heading away interstate for a while and, for a time, my visits will be "occasional". On our way, we shall pass the Braidwood Hotel, carefully restored as nearly as possible to its original 1850 form (shingle roof and all). HFF, everyone.
The National Carillon
The National Carillon stands 50 metres tall and holds 55 bells, from 7kg to 6 tonnes. It was a gift from the British government to Australia, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the national capital, Canberra. It was officially opened in April 1970. I rather feel that the bicycle racks were a somewhat later addition. :-)
I'm about to head away for a few weeks from this weekend, so I expect to be an occasional visitor at best. HFF and have a great weekend, everyone.
Beneath the bridge
The old bridge across our local river is nearing the end of its life. One of the last working lifting bridges in Australia (see note) it is due to be replaced by a 'standardised' concrete bridge next year. I thought it time to get some more images while it's there.
A steady rest
This steel post fitting has been holding up its corner of the old bridge since it was built. Best viewed large on black.
