Flying Fox wings

Flying Fox wings
A set of images of Australian Grey-headed Flying Foxes stretching their wings while at rest and flying over. Getting good flying shots between the trees is tricky as such flights are usually brief and very random. These are Australia's largest bats, with a wingspan of up to 1 metre. Best viewed large.

A wonderful series of images George. Bats are so cool, - I love them. I will show my daughter when she comes to visit, - she is bat mad and even has a tattoo of bats across one shoulder. When she stands on her doorstep at night they swoop down until they are almost touching her.
We only tend to see them at night here though, and they are so much smaller, - mostly pipistrelles. Lovely to see these big beauties out in the light. They really do look like little foxes!

Beautiful images, beautifully captured

Many thanks, Isabel. We do also have a number of smaller bats, usually insect eaters, but they're much harder to find in daytime than these.

Many thanks, Carol. Yes, they are quite fascinating. When these head out at night (actually late dusk) they all head off in one direction like a convoy. I've tried with some difficulty to get shots of them passing and will post soon.

A great series of photos, George. Those are big bats! The one around here are small insect eaters--which, to be sure, is a valuable service ;)

Hi George
A wonderful and interesting picture, which I like very much!
Very nice so see these animals which we know nothing of here.
Our bats only come out at dusk, and are so quick that you can't get a photo, other than by luck.
Best Wishes, a nice weekend, and stay safe!!
