The miner

The miner
This statue is in Pendeen, near the Geevor mine. See also PiP.

From the inscription:
"Hard rock breeds hard men
Who slip between earth's cracks for a living;
The dark chasm which closes around you,
Tight like a fist, draws you down
Into the mine's gullet, the belly of the beast..."

My thanks to John Fitzgerald for bringing to my attention this musical link which pretty much says it all.

Gudrun, Erhard Bernstein, Berny, Marije Aguillo and 19 other people have particularly liked this photo

Two wonderful images, George. I really like your pov on the main photo.

And a good ol' song too!

2 good photos, George, and I definitely prefer the B&W version. Mining - a job I'd hate. So dark and claustrophobic. The inscription is perfect.

Good that you found such places George. Certainly the old mines of Cornwall are very interesting. My own ancestors worked in their tin mines. A hard life for sure. The video/music is most appropriate too. Here is one of my old Cornish mines too.
