the late c14 stone rood screen is much restored, the rood figures and the tracery in the side arches dating from bodley's restoration of 1896. unlike stebbing, I have not seen any pre-restoration drawing, so it is difficult to know how much to trust. small fragments of glass fill the eyes of the lion heads that fill some of the cusps, and these are claimed as original. like its earlier brother screen at stebbing, a timber screen was later built over it, causing damage, but unlike stebbing there seem to be none of the replaced original carvings in the church.

this quatrefoil of late c14 glass centres on two fish biting each other, with the hand holding an orb from a majesty opposite a bearded head, with a lion's mask above and a man with spade and pick below.

motimer arms impaled with those of england and france, probably meant for edmund mortimer, earl of march and philippa plantagenet, daughter of lionel of clarence. this march/clare merger may also be being remembered in the heraldry on the recorder's house in thaxted.
