one of few christian symbols remaining here, the crucifix marks the burial place of parishioners from butterfield's st. clement city road, lever street, finsbury, a church built 1880 blitzed in the war. these could be re-burials, but it was a very poor area, and this post 1912 cross may be a common memorial for those too poor to pay for an individual gravestone.
