markfield road beam engine, tottenham, london

built c.1883 to house a beam engine at this former 1850s sewage works. presumably the left hand building housed the steam engine, with its chimney standing on the panelled base . as there was a chance of damage from bombs toppling such chimneys onto the engine house, many were removed when other power sources allowed in the 1930s and 40s.
