st.mary's church, ealing, london
teulon lychgate, part of his redressing of a preaching box of 1735 between 1866 and 1874. I've never managed access; it's always locked and the natives not over friendly. I've found evangelicals less welcoming generally, though their high church opposites can be funny about access to chancels; I've found vicars of every persuasion that think that there's a fortune to be made selling photos of churches, and see such photography as some sort of theft, instead of welcoming publicity as of long term benefit to their buildings. I visit thousands of churches and always buy guide books (to encourage a good thing, however poor the guide), and jam or second hand books, and always leave some money too, because I believe in paying for my pleasures as far as I'm able, but can do none of this if the church is locked.
