little wenham hall, suffolk

brick built fortified house, c.1280, from the n.w. corner. the doorway at the s.w. corner led to a c16 block that has since been removed. the hall was on the first floor in the west block, with the solar over the chapel in the tower . the basement is vaulted; entry was by a wooden external stair into the hall.
