painted reredos by nicholas mynheer, 1997, showing the assumption of mary. several works by this artist can be found in oxfordshire churches, they are jewel or icon-like with strong colour and gilding, and whilst appearing simple they approach their subjects in a thoughful and sympathetic way, looking at old stories afresh. any church which gets one has made an excellent decision; so much modern work in glass for example is of poor design with tired ideas, it is good to see patrons not afraid to chose outstanding modern work in another medium for a change. artist and patrons are to be congratulated .
