mettingham castle, suffolk

view along the outer walls of the castle built c.1342,looking from the corner tower towards the skewed turrets of the main gatehouse. in 1390 it became a chantry foundation, retaining collegiate status until the reformation. note the c14 brickwork quoins: bricks were imported as ballast from the netherlands at this period.
