mid c16 flemish roundel, supposedly the triumph of church over synagogue , against a zodiac background, but this doesn't really fit; since when was synagogue given angel's wings, and what's with the stag? more likely the triumph of time over fame; see similarities with an oval at strawberry hill. a crowned matron - netted hair- holding clock and sword rides a stag over a crowned virgin angel - untied hair and a female face - who holds a broken torch or trumpet.. ruins appear behind them. the signs of the zodiac are out of any order; gemini is not shown. I've not worked out what the nest like object in the foreground is yet, the crown of thorns doesn't really fit; perhaps a tambourine. interesting to see that the clock has a striking mechanism, and starts with 1 at the top not 12.
