great sampford church

apex of the somewhat battered tomb in the south transept. early mid c14, say 1340ish, this central section is bracketted by two smaller canopies of unknown purpose, they seem unsuited to statues and certainly are not an easter sepulchre as locals claim. possibly tombs of wives or children? whatever, it is impossible for visitors to see this tomb since this transept has been blocked off, a screen of timber or even ironwork through which it would be possible to look would have been better than the existing doors, more suited to an office block than a church. this tomb has always been used as a storage area and desrves better.
