ashford church

the south transept was built in the c14, then refurbished in the late c15, it now holds 3 large smythe tombs. the somewhat archaic design of the arcades throughout the church follow roughly this pattern, only their bases proclaim their c15 perp. nature. Indeed, I wonder if some reuse of earlier material went on during the expansion of the church , whose cruciform plan seems a c13 inheritance.
the organist and churchwardens waiting to lock up allowed me half an hour before making their presence felt, for which courtesy much thanks.
