holy trinity, bottisham
remains of two good carved figures, which look late c14 civilian males, in amongst the collection of carved stones in the north aisle. it's difficult to tell whether they were part of a tomb, as both legs and middle of this figure are missing making the height seem less than it may have been; indeed, the torso and skirts may not even belong together, or the skirts could be upside down. the pose would be unusual for a recumbent effigy; the nicely shod feet seem to be set within the remains of a niche, with the perp. base of a shaft on the left side, but what is the other foot standing on? the hand seems to be gloved, and the head to be enveloped in a hood worn chaperon style.
