debden 1782-4

james essex redesigned the church in 1782-4, and the west front and porch look to be his. the spirelet was originally built 1786 posthumously to his design with much gothick brio, but it has since been redone as a bog standard essex wooden belltower. there was damage to this end of the church in the war, so we must be grateful for such gothick mercies as remain.
