Mallorca
Folder: Europe
The largest of the Islas Balearicas in the Mediterranean Sea. It is part of Spain and a very popular tourist destination.
It is however an excellent place for wildlife and has superb mountains, cliffs and beaches with walks where you meet no-one all day!
It is probably the best place in Europe to see Black Vultures and one of the best to see Eleanora's Falcons

Soller, Mallorca
Town square in the middle of Soller. You can catch trams from the coast up to here and from here board a narrow-gauge train to Palma.
There are some very pleasant restaurants and bars here.
Gecko - Mallorca
Wall (Moorish) Gecko (Tarentola mauritanica) on our veranda in Port de Soller.
Pollenca - Mallorca
Steps leading up to the church on top of the hill in Pollenca. Have a beer in the square first before the hot climb, then enjoy the views from the top.
Pollenca - Mallorca
The Roman bridge below Pollenca in eastern Mallorca. Pollenca is a superb old town, well worth spending a day exploring.
Es Teix - Mallorca
Limestone pavement on Es Teix, north-east of Valldemossa. Very hot and dry, but amazing scenery.
Es Teix - Mallorca
View from the edge of the limestone peak, looking east.
St John's Wort - Mallorca
This is the endemic species Hypericum balearicum - recognisable from its wavy-edged leaves.
Caleta d'Ariant - Mallorca
Beautiful rock country leading down to the coast. You couldn't be further from the busy holiday beaches!
