Not expecting a lunar eclipse, I initially blamed clouds and haze. But at this point, I doubted that and looked for another explanation. And it turned out, I was at the right time to see a partial lunar eclipse during moonrise. As I often watch eclipses, I am aware of the schedule in California and US west-coast -- but I did not check the astronomy calendar for events happening in the middle of the Atlantic ocean and the Azores. . Living in a valley means, you only get to see the sun or moon after it climbed high enough to peek over the 3000...4500ft tall hills. Only when traveling, do I get to see the actual sun- or moonrise (or setting sun & moon). This was a particularly beautiful occasion and location with nice sailboats, distant clouds and a perfect pink sky. .
