Kenya by Balloon
This was one of the first melodies that I ever came up with. It may, however, be a copy from a TV-documentary I saw as a schoolboy in the early 70's. In the (BBC?) documentary they flew in a hot air balloon over African savanna, and for some reason I was very impressed with it and found this melody playing in my head afterwards.
I got my first recording gear only years later, so to keep the melody alive - whether copied or not - I either scribbled it down on a piece of note paper or played it on my fipple flute - or both. This or that, it always went with the name Kenya by Balloon in my mind.
I added the fast middle part when I sequenced it first time (on SY77) in the early 90's, then later ported it to SY99 and finally to Emagic Logic, which drove SY99 along with a few other synths. That tinkling sound heard all over the flying sequences is one of the signature sounds of the Yamaha SY series.
