As Gudrun says, they are called "Strandkorb" ("beach basket"). Because it usually is windy and sometimes a little too cold on the beach (North sea or Baltic sea) to just sit around, you can rent these for a more comfortable experience - the owners even serve coffee, tea or champagne for you.

that was also my first question,what are these things on the beach,looks like big mailboxes.
we dont have these on our beaches here in croatia cause its still hot as hell and will be hoter in future.
But we have another thing,these plastic loungers that are taking the shore,they put them even in the shallow water..lol,its better to go on wild beaches then to mingle with the mob.

i really like the first pip photo of the beach best. kind of minimalist.
