At the Hyde Street turnaround, just outside my hotel (in the background). The building that houses the hotel is owned by the National Park Service,which leases the space to the hotel. This has allowed the park service to build a new visitor center jsut off the hotel lobby.

Pretty sure this is a Long-billed and not a Short-billed. The back appears more rounded, the black bars on the tail are thicker than the white, and the markings in the side appear more toward barred than scalloped. Taken on the ponds near the wastewater treatment plant on Radio Road in Redwood Shores, California on November 26, 2011.
