Young people visit the St. Louis Gateway Arch, 1966.

Young people visit the St. Louis Gateway Arch, 1966.
Set near the launching point of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, the arch was built as a monument to the western expansion of the United States under Thomas Jefferson. Its sleek, modern design was also seen by many to support St. Louis's attempt to re-position itself as a progressive, modern city for the future. The arch is the tallest free-standing arch in the world and was designed in 1947 by Finnish Architect, Eero Saarinen Submitted to the Vintage Photos Theme Park's "Futuristic" theme.
