AKS-11, USS Gratia. May 5, 1945, at Galveston. He would have loved to have seen this. He wanted to reenlist when the Korean war broke out but, according to my mother, she threw a fit and he relented. I think, like a lot of veterans, he found civilian life less satisfying than expected and missed the excitement and strong sense of purpose that he had during the war.
