Castillo, ¿sí o no?

Castillo, ¿sí o no?
No. Decorative crenulated turrets, common to the neo-ghastly style of architecture embraced by U.S. colleges and universities in the 19th century, stand out on the centerpiece of the Knox College campus, "Old Main." This fortress of learning is submitted to the Vintage Photos Theme Park for the theme, "Turrets". An added historical note: The west side of this building is the site of the fifth of seven debates between Illinois Senator Stephen A. Douglas and candidate Abraham Lincoln, on October 7th, 1858. These debates largely centered on the issue of expanding slavery into the territories; Abe was against it. Turrets played no role in the outcome of the debate or the election. Lincoln lost.

Ha ha, I never knew about neo-ghastly fortresses of learning like this. It's interesting to learn that it was the site of one of the Lincoln-Douglas debates.

It's not totally terrible though - the windows, including the gothic arch, are sort of nice, large and allowing a lot of light in. In contrast to the truly horrible schools built in the 60s, with squinty windows or none (to cut down on outside distraction, not for energy saving) and those awful folding walls for "moveable" classrooms.
Urgh.
