At the moment it is very dry and the creek (left of the photo. See notes and PiP) carries almost no water. But during heavy thunderstorms the creek swells enormously and it causes big floods.
To protect the rail of the rack railroad from flooding, a wall from heavy rocks was built along the creek.

Besonders der Kanton Bern war stark betroffen. Bei uns in der Stadt Bern war das ganze Mattequartier überflutet und es mussten Personen evakuiert werden. Und hier in Brienz wurde grosse Teile des Dorfes durch massiv angeschwollene Bäche komplett zerstört.
Ich habe gerade in den News gehört, dass zur Zeit in Deutschland bei verschiedenen Prozessen die Schuldigen für die Unwetterkatastrophe gesucht werden.
Gudrun club has replied to polytropos clubUnd das Üble, die Behörden genehmigen an den meisten Stellen den Wiederaufbau, auf dass die Häuser beim nächsten Mal wieder davongerissen werden.
Wir können uns wohl alle darauf einstellen, dass solche Ereignisse zunehmen werden.
Ach ja, im Winter drehen wir die Heizung runter- bei mir werden's dann eben statt 19-20 nur 17-18 Grad, wähend andere jammern, dass sie unter 22 Grad frieren;-)
