The First Printing of the Canterbury Tales - Geoffrey Chaucer

Printed by William Caxton 1476-77. Many early books, including the first printed edition of 'The Canterbury Tales' seen here were made to look handwritten. Imitating script that would have looked familiar to readers of the time, the printer William Caxton produced this edition in Westminster, just outside of London. Caxton learn how to print after he grew tired of commissioning works produced by hand. (Notes from the Huntington). The Huntington Library, San Marino, California (IMG_6526)
