Buck Moth Caterpillar

Hemileuca maia - Didn't know when I took this photo that the spines are poisonous and the sting is said to be like a saddleback caterpillar sting. Having been stung a couple of times by saddlebacks (the initial pain is excruciating and unforgettable), I am glad I did not touch this one. Cornelius Falls, near Royal, Alabama. (IMG_5827)
