Das erste mal, dass wir eine Blaue Holzbiene (Xylocopa violacea) bei uns im Garten beobachten konnten. Sie war wohl auf der Suche nach Totholz für einen Nistplatz. Mit fast 3 cm Körperlänge ist sie die größte heimische Wildbienenart. Holzbienen leben solitär und bilden keinen Bienenstaat. Auffällig ist sie nicht nur wegen ihrer Größe, sondern auch wegen der blau schillernden Flügel. Eine kleine Flugshow gibt es in den PiPs.
