At this period there were regular Friday trips out of Hastings Diesels Ltd., St. Leonards works. They would run to Hastings on the down, Eastbourne line, cross to the upline and head west, to Bo-Peep Junction, where, I believe, they took the Tonbridge line north.

These engines are hybrid, with a diesel motor which drives a generator to power an electric traction motor. The latter can also use current picked up from a third rail, where that is available. This has made these engines very versatile.
