Spiderman cake with candles alight

Spiderman cake with candles alight
My four-year-old grandson asked for a Spiderman birthday cake. My wife baked a great sponge cake which I simply made into a three-layered base covered in blue and red fondant icing. This was then placed inside a skyscraper scene made from insulation foam covered in printouts of some of my photos of London office buildings. A small metal figure, a couple of Hot Wheels cars and a bit of metal mesh completed the scene.
This photo was uploaded when I saw Andrew Trundlewagon's photo of the Spiderman re-enactor.

That's the thing about making a birthday cake - it's all over in a few minutes. The birthday boy (in this case) sees it, gets Happy Birthday to you sung to him, blows out the candles and then it's devoured. I usually try to include a toy or two for them to keep.

I enjoy making models, so it's a pleasure to enhance my wife's delicious sponge cakes.
