Alfredo from Muriel's album

This photo was in an album which has photos of my mother and her family in the 1920s & 30s. I haven't a clue what Alfredo was doing in there and Mum isn't around any more to ask!
It's amazing what The Vintage Photos Theme Park group makes you drag out of the archives.

I found out by searching for "alfredo violinist" that his photos are sometimes taken for photographs of the distinguished classical violinist Alfredo Campoli. In fact, they were about the same age and looked very similar, with the exception that this Alfredo had considerably more hair around the time the Pathetone film was made. The Alfredo here was also classically trained. Maybe with the help of a wig Alfredo was leading a double life.
The fellow in your photo was very popular in the UK, where he spent his adult life (he was born Alfred Gill in NYC). Anyway, I suspect one of your forebears was a fan.
Update: Alfredo Campoli performing around the same time as the film of the other Alfredo was taken:

Phil Sutters club has replied to John FitzGerald clubSorry my output isn't very exciting at the moment. I am working on putting together a talk/slideshow on stained glass, due in about 8 weeks, for our fund-raising lecture series. Of course it will only include a small portion of the masses of photos I upload here.
John FitzGerald club has replied to Phil Sutters clubStained glass is always interesting. I may even go over to an Anglican church near me that has some interesting stained-glass memorials to soldiers of WWI and take photos of them.
All the best for the talk and slideshow.
