Thanks, Dave. I think my polarizing filter has overcooked it a bit, but it was the best sunset that we have had for quite a while.

I don't think your polarising filter has overdone it at all. In any case, it won't have had too much polarising effect with the sun in the shot. The maximum sky polarisation occurs at an angle of around 90° from the sun. When the sun is in the shot, like this one, the polarising filter acts more like a neutral density filter, which is no bad thing here.

Thanks for your compliment and observation on the polarizer. It may be an in camera setting that has boosted the colour. I remember looking at the screen at the time and comparing it with the view and noticing a rather deeper red look. Anyway it makes an good picture.
