Rye - The Union Inn - East Street

WHERE TO STAY.... group. This is not a recommendation for this particular inn, but a general comment on Rye. It is a beautiful country town, with scores of ancient houses, quayside warehouses, antique shops, potteries, plenty of cafes and pubs, a small castle, town walls and a beautiful old church. It is on the railway between Ashford, Hasting and Eastbourne, with connections to London, Gatwick airport and Brighton. It is built on a hill, so be prepared for a climb from the station or get a cab to the High Street, after which almost everywhere is downhill!
