Southease swing bridge - 10.11.2011

Southease swing bridge - 10.11.2011
The bridge is listed and quite elegant, but its protective woodwork rather spoils the effect. It hasn't been opened for many years. Boats going up the river towards Lewes are small leisure craft, that can pass under with ease at most levels of tide, I would guess.

Nice metallic bridge! I wonder whether the protective woodwork is still there. Is the bridge already functioning?

I have not been to this bridge for a long time. It hasn't 'swung' for a long time. It carries a road that connects the village of Southease with its railway station. As the wooden frameworks are there to protect the metal structure from passing boats, I am sure that they will still be there.
The time that the bridge is at greatest risk of damage is when the annual Lewes to Newhaven charity raft race takes place. Participants can be seen near the finish on this and the next page - www.ipernity.com/doc/philsutters/album/1289376/@/page:5:18
