Les Litanies de la Vierge sont une série d'incantations dont les représentations étaient particulièrement populaires au XVIe s.. La Vierges des litanies est souvent représentée les mains jointes, entourée du soleil, de la lune, d'une étoile et de 12 autres attributs bibliques accompagnées de 15 formules poétiques:

"electra ut sol" (resplendissante comme le soleil)
"pulcra ut luna" (belle comme la lune)
"stella maris" (étoile de la mer)
"porta celi" (porte du ciel)
"sicut lilium inter spinas" (comme le lis entre les épines)
"exaltata cedrus" (cèdre surélevé)
"turris David cum pugnaculis" (tour de David, bâtie en forteresse)
"oliva speciosa" (olivier à l'aspect brillant)
"puteus aquarum viventium" (puits d'eau vive)
"virga Jesse floruit" (tige de Jessé fleurie)
"speculum sine macula" (miroir sans tache)
"fons hortorum" (fontaine des jardins)
"hortus conclusus" (jardin clos)
"civitas dei" (cité de Dieu)

The Litany of the Virgin are a series of incantations whose pictures were particularly popular in the sixteenth century .. The Virgin litany is often represented with folded hands, surrounded by the sun, moon, star and 12 other biblical attributes accompanied by 15 poetic formulas:

"ut electra ground" (shining like the sun)
"pulcra ut luna" (beautiful as the moon)
"stella maris" (Star of the Sea)
"porta celi" (Heaven's Gate)
"sicut lilium inter spinas" (as the lily among thorns)
"cedrus exaltata" (raised cedar)
"David turris cum pugnaculis" (tower of David, built a fortress)
"oliva speciosa" (olive to shiny)
"puteus aquarum viventium" (well of living water)
"virga Jesse floruit" (flower of Jesse)
"speculum sine macula '(spotless mirror)
"fons hortorum" (fountain of gardens)
"conclusus hortus' (garden)
"civitas dei" (City of God)
