Au fond du parc du château de Maintenon on peut admirer les vestiges de l'aqueduc qui devait alimenter les fontaines du parc du château de Versailles avec les eaux détournées de l'Eure (soit 80 km de dérivation). Vauban est chargé de mener à bien ce colossal projet resté inachevé.

Merci René. La construction de cet aqueduc était une opération de prestige car la fabrication d'une conduite enterrée serait revenue beaucoup moins chère mais elle aurait été invisible. L'aqueduc ne fut jamais achevé faute de crédits, Louis XIV ayant besoin de financer ses guerres...
