Rolling stock photography
On a 3- day excursion with some photographer friends on the Rhaetian Railway you can have a bit of fun. I saw our train reflected in the glass fronts of Poschiavo station, took a photo and of course the others followed suit;-) Inset a different take.
Rhaetian Railway in the Albula and Bernina landscapes is on the World Heritage list since 2008: whc.unesco.org/en/list/1276
Solitary
Farm on Vatnsnes Peninsula near Hvammstangi, looking towards Miðfjörður, a side fjord of Húnaflói. Húnaflói means "Bay of the young icebears" because sometimes in winter icebears from Greenland drift ashore on their iceflows. With global warming this is getting rare though.
The building on the right is a traditional fish drying shed.
Hvítserkur
Hvítserkur (white shirt) is an eroded basalt plug on the east coast of Vatnsnes peninsula, in an old and long extinct rift zone. The white patches are guano from nesting fulmars and kittiwakes.
Legend has it that a troll was caught out by the sun while throwing stones at Þingeyrar church.
Christine II
Boats at Rousse, looking over Le Grand Havre on Guernsey's NW coast. Also see inset photos.
Beware of horses and sheep!
On the gravel road round Vatnsnes Peninsula. The sheep ran away (see inset) and the horses were in hiding;-)
HFF everybody!
Hamarsrett (Sheep pen)
A circular sheep pen on Vatnsnes peninsula looking west over Miðfjörður (Húnaflói).When the sheep are gathered in autumn they are sorted by owner into the "spokes" of the pen.
The Bubble (PiP)
Strokkur geyser erupts about every 10 minutes to a height of ca. 20m (see inset clickable photo).
It lies in an area of silica sinter deposit in Haukadalur geothermal field, the remnant of Geysir volcanic system which consists of a basaltic central volcano and rhyolitic lava domes on the southern end of Langjökull fissure swarm.
The big Geysir (which gave all geyers its name) is nearby and has erupted twice already this year after a long dormancy- it seems things are hotting up;-)
